Subsidy of ₹ 200 per cylinder to Ujjwala beneficiaries

The central government has made a big cut in the excise duty on petrol and diesel. On Saturday, the government reduced the excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and on diesel by Rs 6 per liter. This announcement was made by the country's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He said that as a result of reduction in excise duty, the price of petrol will come down by Rs 9.5 per liter and that of diesel by Rs 7 per liter. This will be due to reduction in other taxes levied at the rate of excise duty.

The government also announced a subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder on domestic cooking gas to the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme, up to 12 gas cylinders in a year, this subsidy will be available to about nine crore families, this decision of the government from Saturday midnight. came into force. These steps have been taken in view of the rising inflation in the country and the impact on common life due to high prices of fuel products.

The government had earlier cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 per liter and on diesel by Rs 10 per liter on November 4, 2021. But after the completion of assembly elections in five states, the prices of petrol and diesel started increasing again from the second fortnight of March 2022. For this, the rise in international crude oil prices due to the Russia-Ukraine war was attributed. While cutting excise duty, the Union Finance Minister expressed confidence that the state governments will also move in the direction of cutting their taxes applicable on petrol and diesel. He said that the common man would get relief by doing this by the state governments. He said the supply chain has been disrupted because of the Ukraine war. Due to this, today the whole world is facing the brunt of inflation.

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the BJP-ruled states had cut their taxes on diesel-petrol in the past. But, non-BJP ruled states did not do this, these states should also give relief by reducing VAT.
